It was another busy weekend for the club at our annual ODE. With temperatures set to rise we were glad for a slight relief in the hot weather for the Sunday. The day started early with lorries arriving from 6.45am and once we had got the resident horses in the lorry park relocated were we set for an exciting day.
The new course at Poplar proved testing, especially early on for the 80 riders. It was great to have a junior and senior team at this level as well as a junior individual. The junior team of Megan Hammond, Jasmine Hawkins, Shannon Curtis and Lauren Hassan with Imogen Hughes as an individual had a challenging day with things just not going their way! After some great dressage tests and clears in the SJ the XC proved to be the undoing of some. Jasmine Hawkins, however, picked up a fantastic 3rd place – well done her! We are hoping that those who were not so fortunate will be out again representing the club soon!
The senior team of Jackie Street, Joe Mace, Kirsty Dawes and Julia Hicks all performed well in the dressage and again clear in the SJ but sadly Jackie and Kristy had an unlucky refusal and Joe having a stumble in the water breaking his reins! Julia had a great day and picked up 3rd place – well done Julia! The team finished 2nd, which was an excellent result! We also had two new members in the 80 non qualifier, Sam Watson and Tracy Pattinson who had an enjoyable day at their first Finn Valley event and first ODE!
Later in the day was the turn of 90, 100 and 100+ riders. We had a senior 90 team of Julia Sheppard, Rosie Stevens, Emma Glover and Alie Dryden. Rosie coming 6th in her arena and Alie and Emma jumping double clears with a few time penalties. Julia having an unfortunate run out at the last water! The team finished 6th.
Isabella Stagg performed exceptionally well in the dressage with a score or 25.8 penalties but sadly picked up 20pens on the XC. In the 100+ we had new member Becky de Bree finishing 4th and April Brown winning the section and will be heading off to Swalicliffe in August!
A great day had by all, with everyone still smiling at the end of the day. Well done to team Finn Valley!
